Size and Population
Coshocton County is 564 square mile. 1.52% is Urban. Coshocton County population is 36,901. Coshocton City population is 11,216.
Coshocton is conveniently located midway between Pittsburgh, PA and Coumbus, OH and within a 15-minute drive of 1-77 and 30 minutes of 1-70. Coshocton is situated along the State Route 16/US Route 36 corridor which is a four-lane divided highway form 1-77 to Columbus. Coshocton is also home to the active Ohio Central Railroad company which operates as a short line with access to CSX and Norfolk-Southern lines. Richard Downing Airport is loaced approximately 2 mile northeast of the City of Coshocton and is centrally located in the county. It operates as a general aviation service airport and currently has one 5000 foot runway which is equipped with lights for night time use.
There is an established enterprise zone throughout Coshocton County allowing for real and personal property exemptions to be offered in situations where there is legitimate competition for job creating investments in certain business sectors. We also have a Community reinvestment Area (CRA) in a portion of our downtown commercial business districts. This may allow for real porperty tax exemptions for certain investments. The Coshocton Port Authority helps business and industry determine appropriate local, state and federal programs that may be of assistance. Local Revolving Loan Funds are available through the Coshocton Port Authority.
Education and Training
The Coshocton Campus is home to a branch of the Central Ohio Technical College offering two-year associate degrees. Muskingum University utilizes the Coshocton Campus for a variety of programs and classes. The Coshocton County Career Center provides custom training services to fit the needs of area employers. The Coshocton County's Department of Job and Family Services provides pre-employement sceenings and certifications as well as other vital workfoce development services.
Major Industrial Base
Coshocton is home to AK Steel, Buckeye Fabric Finishing Co., Coshocton Grain Co., Excello Fabric Finishing Co., Jones -Zylon, MFM Building Products, Novelty Advertising Co., Organic Technologies, SanCasT Inc., RockTenn, Yankee Wire Cloth Products, Coshocton Ethanol, American Electric Power, Annin-Flagmakers, and McWane/Clow Water Systems. Coshocton is looking forward to adding the Oil and Gas Industry to our list.
